Any Given Night
On any given night in New York City there is a combustible mix of power, glamour, and giving. With one foot I dance, awkwardly stepping between obligation and joy, remembering the clumsiness of that first co-ed dance. Does everyone have a feeling of exclusion maybe just once in their life, thinking "It's okay. I don't really need to be a part of that" but secretly wishing you were, even just for a minute. Sometime I'd rather just be a fly on the wall. Perhaps it comes in the discomfort of appearance. Of a size too big or a shoe too small.
Some spend years building their way to the event. Some might just perfer to go home with the watier. In many ways what we crave is experience. To be in a moment and recognize right then and there, THIS is a moment. But more likely than not we are just a small part of something larger - meant to give back.
To give back to society. To give back to ourselves.
Or maybe just to give into the night.
